Reality Check ⬅️⬅️⬅️
May 01, 2024Too many people spend money they earned..to buy things they don't want..to impress people that they don't like.
This can be a little slap in the face.
Don't take it personally.
Stick with me and think about what you're doing because it's your habits and your plan (or lack of it) that's causing these problems .
I see this all the time.
Some people make a bunch of money and then it's gone.
People that win the lottery and then they're broke.
When you come into big sums of money too fast and you're not ready for it...
You're financially not ready for that unless you've planned for it.
Start out small.
When you're broke as hell (I remember when I was so broke) I was still investing in my IRA, putting money away in emergency accounts, health savings accounts, even if it was just a little bit. I was always putting money away, no matter how broke I was. That way, I always knew that I had money in these accounts.
Yeah, granted, it wasn't very much money in the beginning, but as time goes on and you keep accumulating, and then compound interest kicks in, investment returns kick in, it can become a large sum of money that can take care of you and your family in multiple situations.
In my podcast, I often talk about retirement accounts, health savings accounts, college accounts, emergency accounts. There are so many accounts you can have and it sounds overwhelming, so start small.
Start with your emergency accounts.
Start building that one up. Then build your IRAs up. Then your health savings. If you have kids, your college accounts. There are so many things you can do, but you have to learn to manage your money now before you have money.
I see it all the time. I consult for companies where guys, they're doing seven, eight figures in sales, and they don't have any money. They're literally one launch from being broke because they're living that lifestyle. They're not financially sound with the right decisions and they're living in too big of a house! They've got too nice of a car, and they're just spending a ton of money where it looks good on paper... Excuse me, it doesn't look good on paper. It looks good on social media, but looks horrible on paper because if one thing goes wrong, launch doesn't go through, something's bad, they're going to be hurting!
Hopefully, they've got a line of credit set up or something to offset that.
You have to start planning now.
And when you do have money, life is a lot easier and you don't make the mistakes.
Always think about things in percentages.
I talked a lot about this in my book - percentages over dollars. Always move percentages of money into all these different accounts and you won't feel it. I promise you won't feel it. You can start off super small and start building.
Start thinking about it and start planning now.
Even if you don't have any money. Even if you're broke, start planning now!
Learn good, solid money management.
Then when you do have more money, there's a way better chance you're going to keep it and accumulate it and then have an awesome life.
All you got to do is watch those silly lottery winners shows where they're interesting to watch the ones that have lost everything. There's one episode I saw a guy win the lottery twice and lost everything twice because he had no idea what to do with this money.
I talk more about money (mis)management, finances, and unconscious programming that are preventing you from gaining financial freedom.
